INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS' INSPECTORATE - INSPECTION OF CLAIRES COURT SCHOOLS

The Independent Schools’ Inspectorate (ISI) is the independent inspection arm of the Independent Schools’ Council, recognised by the Department of Education and Skills and monitored by Ofsted. We were inspected at both secondary (Sixth Form, Claires Court and the Senior Department of the College) and primary (Ridgeway and the Nursery, Lower School [Infants] & Junior Departments of the College) levels during the week beginning Monday 11 March 2002. MAIN FINDINGS of the PRIMary (“JUNIOR SCHOOLS”) report

Overall Summary – Maidenhead College

The nursery, lower school and junior departments offer good quality provision for pupils between two and a half to 11 years of age. A real strength of the school is the good provision for pupils with special educational needs. All pupils are well cared for and very well prepared for the next stage of their learning.

What [the College] Does Well

The school’s major strengths are:

• The school receives clear, good quality management guidance and documentation from the Executive Management Team (EMT)
• The Head of the College provides caring and supportive leadership to the head of the lower school and junior department.
• Teaching is of good or very good quality.
• Pupils attain high standards in English, science and French and, by the time pupils are eleven, they are thoroughly prepared for the next stage of learning
• Provision for pre-school and after school care is very good.
