INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS' INSPECTORATE - INSPECTION OF CLAIRES COURT SCHOOLS

The Independent Schools’ Inspectorate (ISI) is the independent inspection arm of the Independent Schools’ Council, recognised by the Department of Education and Skills and monitored by Ofsted. We were inspected at both secondary (Sixth Form, Claires Court and the Senior Department of the College) and primary (Ridgeway and the Nursery, Lower School [Infants] & Junior Departments of the College) levels during the week beginning Monday 11 March 2002. MAIN FINDINGS of the PRIMARY (“JUNIOR SCHOOLS”) report

Overall Summary - Ridgeway

Ridgeway is a very good school with many strengths and no significant weaknesses. The school benefits from strong leadership and very good management. Very good policies linked to pupils’ learning, care and welfare are well thought out and very well implemented. By the age of eleven, pupils reach standards of attainment well above average in mathematics, English, science, music and art and they are prepared very well for the next stage of their education.

What [Ridgeway] Does Well

The school’s major strengths are:

• The school is effectively guided and supported by the Claires Court Schools Group Executive Management Team (EMT).
• The Head of Ridgeway provides very good leadership, clear direction and focus to the life of the school, supported by a strong school senior management team.
• The majority of teaching is of good or very good quality.
• Pupils maintain consistently high standards of attainment and progress.
• Pastoral care, support and guidance are very good.
• The extra-curricular activities programme is very good both during the school year and in holiday periods and is very popular with pupils and parents.
