The Making of...

When Year 6 at the College were challenged by Principal James Wilding that "every girl has a story in her", they set about proving him right, with a vengeance. Casting the boss as the villain of the piece, and altering his name slightly to invoke memories of the great children's writer, JK Rowling, the girls wrote a 20 chapter saga of life in a girls school.

I won't give away the plot line, which it must be said ranges freely across the planet and through time, both back in the past and far in the future, but a pair of dice inscribed with the Principal's initials, JKW feature prominently.

Their form teacher and Prep. School Director of Studies, Niels Carruthers, also features in the novel, providing a gentle steer for the girls when it seems they might get into real danger. Each chapter has been written from the perspective of one of the girls in the class, and many of the events seem to take place between lessons. As one girl wrote "Year 6 break times are amazing!"

BBC School Report journalist Ellie caught up with Year 6, as they were presented with a sparkling, fresh copy of their book, and of course a pair of dice, by Mr Wilding during a recent algebra class. "What next after this triumph?" she asked, to which the girls gave clear reply "Why another book of course – in which Year 6 save the World!"
