Claires Court Schools - A Unique Education

School Bulletin: Summer term 2010 - 12 - Ridgeway

Download this Bulletin as a PDF Click here To download this bulletin including all sports information and forms as a pdf.

We are privileged to have been able to enjoy two fantastic performances on Wednesday. The Pre-Prep production of "The Selfish Giant" was superb and this was followed in the afternoon by the Junior Prep performing "The Rocky Monster Show" – another great hit. It was wonderful to be able to witness the pleasure and fun of these singing and acting productions and we also celebrated academic, sporting, chess, art and musical achievements at the Prize-Giving. Boys throughout the school have had opportunities to take part in a vast array of activities over the year and it is lovely to be able to recognise particular successes, but of all the prizes the Citizenship Cup, this year awarded to Owen Agnew, is most coveted. Well done Owen, you have been a terrific "citizen" and example to others.

Goodbye

After 12 years of Latin teaching at Claires Court Schools we are sad to say goodbye to Mrs Andrea Brown who is retiring this summer. Bona fortuna sit semper.

On Monday boys took part in another highly successful end of term Chess Tournament and on Thursday we were sorry to say goodbye to Year 6 at their Leavers Assembly. But we did enjoy some musical "treats" from them before they left. Also on Thursday, the Pre-Prep's International Picnic was a terrific success. I know – I was invited. Yummy!

The term has flown by with all manner of trips, visits, sport music and drama – not to mention work and exams! In truth, the year has flown by and in September your sons will move up a year. Also in September Claires Court Schools celebrates its 50th Birthday and a number of events to mark the occasion are planned. Look out for more information – but in the meantime we wish all our families a happy and enjoyable summer.

JNR-PREP PRIZE-GIVING PERFORMANCE DVD – "THE ROCKY MONSTER SHOW"

The deadline date for ordering these DVD's is today, Friday 16 July. Orders will be delivered to the School during the summer holidays and will be available for collection at the start of next term.

THERESA MAY VISIT

Last Friday Claires Court were delighted to welcome the Home Secretary Theresa May to school. Mrs May was invited to come in and see the work that the Geography department have been doing with the boys, raising awareness for the Global Campaign for Education.

SPORTS' DAY PHOTOGRAPHS

Photographs are still available to purchase on-line through DE Photography using the user name 'Ridgeway' and password 'Ross'.

CHARITY SWEET SALE – 6 JULY

On 6 July, two of our sixth form students held a charity sweet sale. With the help of the boys, we are delighted to announce that £78.00 was raised in aid of Cystic Fibrosis.

HOUSE NEWS

The boys have been very busy throughout the year earning points for their houses. This term's totals include not only those earned in the classrooms and around the school but also for chess, cricket house matches, exam results and Sports' Day. Many thanks to this year's House and Vice Captains for their hard work. The winners this term were CLIVEDEN. Over the year Cliveden and Dorney have vied for the lead. This year Dorney triumphed, ably lead by Tom Hudson and Charlie Monk. Congratulations to DORNEY.

END OF TERM MAILING

This Bulletin will travel with your end of term mailing, including the latest copy of Scribblings and Scribblets for pupils in Reception to Year 10. Please do check through all of the information now rather than the other end of the holidays, to ensure you are up to speed with coach bookings etc. Reports for Reception, Years 1, 2 and 6 are enclosed.

LUNCH MENU

A new menu for the Autumn Term has been included with this mailing. Please note that there is an increase in the main meal to £2.40 per day. Please also note that we will be continuing to encourage 'Healthy Eating' at Ridgeway and hope that any packed lunches brought into the school would also be very healthy! We also would ask that you send in healthy items for break. We would ask parents to ensure that packed lunches do not include any products containing nuts.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE FEE INCREASE

It is never pleasant to share news of a fee increase but after keeping the price for before and after school care sessions the same since 2005 we are now in a situation where the increase is necessary. The increase will take effect from September 2010 with the new rates at £3 for an after school care session and £2 for a before school care session. A charge will be made for each session your child attends regardless of the amount of time they are in attendance. The charge will still include transport to and from Ridgeway if required. Information on this is included in your mailing.

FRIDAY 16 AND SATURDAY 17 JULY – HARRODS VISIT AT THE COLLEGE

Harrods will be at The College today, Friday 16 from 3.00pm until 6.30pm and tomorrow, Saturday 17 July from 11.00am until 5.00pm. They will be stocking a full range of Ridgeway, Claires Court and The College uniforms.

An exhibition displaying the progress of Claires Court from its founding in 1960, will take place at Maidenhead Heritage Centre.
