The Inaugural UK Google Science Fair awareness conference was held at Claires Court Schools, The College on Saturday 25 February.
Delegates learned more about the Google Science Fair, its prizes and the methodology underpinning successful applications. The conference leader, James Wilding, was delighted that this small but significant event had happened.
"When prizes as big as $50,000 are available, it seems senseless not to encourage young scientists to participate. The UK is renowned for both its science and its inventiveness, both areas hugely valued within Claires Court, and I was delighted that Google gave me permission to run such an event, and that we were able to attract some talented youngsters from Maidenhead and the surrounding area to take part".
2012 Science Fair candidates will now be able to make use of Claires Court's staff, knowledge and contacts to further their own application over the next 6 weeks. Mr Wilding expects to be able to plan some longer preparation time through the coming Summer for aspirant Google Science Fair applicants to get ready for 2013. The deadline for 2012 applications is 1 April 2012.
