The Arts

Art lesson

The arts are a vibrant part of school life at Claires Court; your son will be inspired to be creative and expressive, and challenged to experiment and explore.

ART

Our boys impressive artwork can been seen on display throughout the school.  Our artist in residence, inspires our boys to be independent thinkers and by being shown how certain materials work, your son will be encouraged to make his own decisions producing some incredibly creative compositions. A recent project saw the ‘Arts Award’ group create and commission a book called ‘Art is a Time for Freedom’, with commentary on what art means to each contributor. In addition to this, with such motivational and driven teachers it is not surprising last year we won seven, first prizes at the ISA Regional Art and Craft Competition, with one piece taking first prize at national level.

Art Scholarships are available.

DRAMA

Drama is for all at Senior Boys, it is throughOur confident boys on stage this medium that many boys learn to communicate and express themselves.
Many are confident to take centre stage, whilst others find their skills lie at working behind the scenes designing and creating scenery or as a techie, learning the ropes for the amazing light and sound needed at our major performances.

Drama is taught within the curriculum and is also enjoyed as an extra-curricular activity. In Years 7 and 8, pupils delight audiences with their end of year Drama Festivals, these montages are a great showcase of the boys’ developing performance skills and confidence. However your son’s experience of theatre can go beyond the school gate, as last year along with Sixth Form and Senior Girls dramatists, boys took to the stage in the centre of Maidenhead, with a publicly available performance of ‘Wandering the West End’.  Plus, the Drama Department regularly organise theatre trips to local and West End theatres that will add to your son’s theatrical and cultural experience.

Drama Scholarships are available.

MUSIC

From enthusiastic beginners to accomplished musicians, boys are encouraged to discover music that suits their tastes and develops their abilities. The lively and dynamic Music Department encourages and inspires boys to participate fully both in class Music lessons and the opportunities that are offered beyond the classroom.

At Claires Court we have a long standing tradition of enabling boys to learn an instrument and have an excellent team of visiting part-time staff, who offer tuition in singing and a wide range of instruments, including Piano/Keyboard, Woodwind, Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Brass and Drums.

There are a variety of clubs and activities that allow boys to practise and perform together, as we find that the more pupils play along with others, (especially those of a higher standard) the better their own playing becomes.

Our musicians currently take part in a range of sessions, relevant to their particular instrument:

Jazz Band
Choir (Year 7-9, Year 10 and Year 11)
Samba Band
Brass Group
Guitar Group
Woodwind Group

A varied programme of informal and formal concerts take place throughout the year, giving your son the chance to perform at anything from the Carol Service or Joint Concert with Senior Girls, to the annual Rock Concert and Speech Day Celebrations. Our musicians also have the opportunity to perform in public at the locally acclaimed ‘Art on the Street’ and ‘Maidenhead’s Got Talent’ events.

Music Scholarships are available.
