South Africa Tour – 19 to 29 July 2010

The South Africa Tour Group Photo

Our netball and rugby players are all geared up and ready for their adventure to South Africa. They will be arriving in Cape Town early on the morning of 20 July and once they have gathered themselves, will spend their day sight seeing. They will be playing a series of matches interspersed with some exciting trips and outings.

Watch this space for news as it arrives with us throughout the tour.

Tuesday 20 July

News from South Africa is that the journey was fine. Our tourists have visited Cape Town Castle and Table Mountain which was spectacular. Temperature over 24° C.

The group set off for Seal Island to admire the Sea Lions and to Boulders Beach where they enjoyed looking at the penguins.

Friday 23 July

After an early start and without too much grumbling, the group set off on safari to Aquila Game Reserve. They had a brilliant day, other than the moments when a 9 year old (young!) elephant decided to butt the vehicle in which part of our group was travelling. Entertaining if a little intimidating!

Saturday 24 July

The day was spent around the pool and with a visit to the Waterfront. The group also paid a visit to the Aquarium. The temperature remains in the high 20's and all are being model students (and staff!).

Sunday 25 July

Today saw our tourists at the seaside resort fo Hermanus. In theory, one can see the whales but today for some reason, they become very shy and hid under the water, although it was possible to see them blowing air. Four of the students went on a private trip to cage dive with Great Whites. Mr Rayer felt that this responsibility as Party Leader prevented him from joining this group - to say nothing of his wish to remain as far away as possible from them!

Monday 26 July

The group travelled on today to visit the town of Stellenbosch. Further matches took polace today at High School de Kuilen. The rugby squad won their match 19-7. Sadly the netball players lost both their matches.

Tuesday 27 July

Unfortunately the swell was too great to allow the group to pay their visit to Robben Island.

The afternoon matches at Reddam Constantia School resulted in a loss for the rugby players, 7-1. The girls did rather better with the 1sts winning their match 23-16 and the 2nd 12-10.

Wednesday 28 July

Earlier in the morning the group were getting ready for their visit to Robben Island before tidying their rooms and getting ready for their return to the UK leaving Cape Town in the evening.
