The pupils had shown a keen interest in the Trooping of the Colour and wanted to learn more about the ceremonial uniform of the Queens Own Lifeguards, Mounted Regiment of the Household Cavalry. CoH Stay explained to the boys how his uniform, although ceremonial today, was part of a soldier's key equipment in battle. His buff belt which goes across the chest is a spare girth for the horse's saddle and the box worn on the back of the solider is used to store ammunition.

Her full report will undoubtedly feature in a future Court Circular but, to explain, this opportunity was all part of the Cadet 150 celebrations to mark 150 years of the Cadet Movement. On 6 July, there was a march by Cadets down The Mall followed by a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, during which the Red Arrows performed a fly past. Liz was one of only seven cadets (from a group of 20 ‘hopefuls’ chosen from the three cadet services) to actually be selected. It is worth noting that Liz has a fear of flying, not that you would know from seeing the photo!!
