Mr Richards' Words Summer 4

Why do some boys give up?  This is an interesting question.  Is it worry? The fear of not knowing? Nurture or nature? Perfectionism or pressure?  At Junior Boys we encourage an atmosphere where healthy relationships allow boys to achieve without anxiety.

Whilst stress can appear for adults, in Form Assemblies the boys never ever fail to deliver.  Every now again there is a jaw dropping moment when they amaze you and just make you so proud.  Last Friday Year 1 produced one such occasion.  Nervous chatter and shy grins were on display as they assembled in front of a wonderful parental turnout.  They then cleverly led us on a journey of reflection about their aspirations as they grow up.  Clear voices and well chosen clips reminded us of teamwork and support and that, as long as they tried their best, we would all be proud of them.  It certainly was a TRIUMPH.  A parent was moved to contact me to ask to highlight   new website that offers families support when life is not so clear.  A National Mental Health awareness campaign has been running this week and as ‘well being’ is always high on our excellent pastoral team’s agenda, I felt empowered and hope you can take a look: https://therockpool.org/.

Observation is a necessary skill on the chequered board and victory was an ambition for our U9 and U11 chess competitors as they travelled to Bristol on Saturday to do battle at the Regionals. Despite not hitting the top level, all learnt something and tried their best.  Our reputation as a school that competes in the right way was once again enhanced and the boys were complimented for sportsmanship, manners and smiles.

Happiness radiates in abundance when the school is bathed in sunshine.  The games staff have also been a chipper crew as the weather finally allows the cricketers and athletes an opportunity to test themselves.

Personal contests have also taken place inside with assessments.  One or two have had a wobble, some have raced to the end, others been a bit more considered and confident but none have given up.

Trips, visits and events have also occurred.  Chessington World of Adventures, Wellington Country Park, talks from Marine Biologists and 'Books and Bushcraft' have stimulated thinking and interest.  Outward Bound adventures today and camping extensions also show what a terrifically dedicated common room we have.  I am so grateful that they are determined not to allow any boy to give up.
