Mrs Heywood's Words Autumn 4
The U12, U13 & U14 swim squad had an extremely successful start to the season at a friendly gala this week.
The girls swam against St Mary's, St George's and Farnborough Hill and really shone in what was quite a competitive competition. The U12, and U13 girls finished 1st and the U14 girls finished 2nd! A fabulous start to the season. The PE Dept are looking forward to the next major gala which is the ISA Regional Swimming Gala in mid November.
Parlez-vous français? Español? Cymraeg? Wednesday was the European Day of Languages - a celebration of linguistic diversity planned each year by the Council of Europe to encourage people to try learning a new language. The five most widely spoken languages in Europe are Russian, German, English, French and Italian - but the continent is home to 225 indigenous languages. Thank you to G10 pupils and the Modern Foreign Language Department for Monday’s Assembly and putting on culture display of items for celebration on the European Day of Languages. Learning a new language leads to countless new opportunities for self-expression, and helps you to see the world through the eyes - and ears - of a different culture.
We had our first Open Morning of the year today and we were delighted to welcome nearly forty visitors who came to see us at work. It was lovely to hear after the tours that they can see that ‘we do what we say we do on the tin’ and how much our ability to offer a broad educational experience alongside excellence both academically and in the wider curriculum resonated with them. I must congratulate our Year 9 guides for doing a splendid job in talking about their school.
Our U18 Hockey Team have started the season extremely well beating Shiplake B squad 6-1 and LVS 6-0, whilst the U12 Netball squads managed to win all but one of their games in the open tournament of the season.
We are looking forward to the PTA's spectacular school Fireworks Display on Saturday 13 October at the Junior Boys School. This event is a fabulous fundraiser for the school and G10 pupils are busily discussing what stalls they are going to run, with a gentle steer from Head of Year Ms Clifford.
Have a lovely weekend!
