Mrs Heywood's Words Autumn 7

A huge thank you to all who participated in the rowing challenge, helped and attended the ‘Fireworks & Halloween Spectacular’ at the weekend.

With some 1000 people present, it was once again both excellent in bringing our whole community together and on the day we took over £6000.

A special mention to Tom Jost and the Rowing Department, for kicking the days proceedings off with the sponsored row. The atmosphere was electric as the boys and girls raced on ergs (indoor rowing machines) and the new Concept Bikes to cover 66 km per station, this is equivalent to rowing from Maidenhead Rowing Club to the Houses of Parliament.  It was extremely well attended by our rowers and the warm weather brought families out in the evening.

A double thank you to the Boys and Girls PTA teams for all their hard work making the event so enjoyable. It was great to see the Year 10 and Year 11 girls and boys work side by side to support the event. The Year 10’s have spent time in their tutor groups planning their stalls and the Senior Girls ran three stalls and raised £198.54 and Senior Boys ran seven stalls and raised £296.10.

Year 7 had their first Parents’ Evening and work share on Tuesday. Thank you to all of you that gave me feedback on what you had heard and how much you valued the depth of explanation and the individual knowledge of each child. One of the most important elements of successful learning is the relationship between each child and their teacher. From what you told me it is clear that these are both strong and warm and this is laying great foundations for future learning and progression.

The U16 indoor hockey squad have qualified through to the finals of the County Championships after brilliantly winning all games in their section...they now face Wellington College, Downe House and The Abbey in the Finals and will look to finish in the top two in order to secure a spot in the Regional Round of this competition like they have already done so in outdoor hockey.

I am looking forward to seeing Year 11 parents on Monday 5 November, and a host of prospective parents at the Open Morning. Over the half term period the first grade card will be posted home and ‘Bon Voyage’ to all those going on school trips abroad and at home. I hope you have a marvellous half term holiday.
