Mrs Heywood's Words Lent 4

It looks like the US of A with the snow today! Hopefully we can all breathe outdoors safely and return to school on Monday refreshed from the unexpected long weekend!
Mr Gravett, Head of Music, took the opportunity last Friday to do some outreach work in the community, and the girls thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the pupils from Alwyn Infant School during their music week. Our Harmony Choir sang with confidence and treated their audience to a wide variety of musical performances.
As part of National Storytelling week our boys and girls in Year 7 created their very own stories! Blue Peter Award winning author Ali Sparkes led a creative writing workshop which focused on creating dialogue and mood; two essential elements of any story. Ali passed on some of her own storytelling tips and advice and revealed elements of her childhood that have influenced her as a modern storyteller. From rewriting paragraphs to wild assuming alter egos, all the pupils were inspired by the simple ways in which stories can be created, shared and enjoyed. Ali also read several passages from her latest thriller: Death By Detention, a tale of zombies, assassins and far worse... detention!
Year 11 artists visited Tate Modern on Thursday and we hope that the inspiration gained from seeing the work of the world’s greatest artists will give them that extra motivation as they continue with their GCSE courses.
Open Morning on Wednesday was extremely busy again as we show ourselves to prospective pupils, from Junior to Sixth Form. Year 7 were brilliant guides this time round - so confident and articulate.
Due to the recent bad weather and early coaches, we have rearranged the Year 9 Option Fayre to take place as part of the G9 Parents Evening on Wednesday March 6. This week the girls have had an option talk by our external careers adviser Helen Cole about subject choices for future careers. The girls will have brought home the GCSE Handbook for you to view and an option choice form which needs to be returned after the Parents Evening on the Monday 11 March. You will have received an email regarding early coach on Monday 4 February. There will be no after school activities running that afternoon. For those unable to be collected at 4.00pm we can offer study in the dining room .
We are looking forward to hearing how our cross country runners performed at the ISA London West Competition (weather permitting tomorrow) and we look forward to announcing these results next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
