Mrs Heywood's Words Summer 3

Well done to Charlie, Evie, Georgie and Ophelia who rose to the challenges at the Salters' Festival of Chemistry. A great day with well engaged and happy chemists!

Members of Year 8 competed at the Salters' Festival of Chemistry at the University of Reading, completing two challenges. The pupils worked well collaboratively on both tasks putting their problem solving and critical thinking skills to the test. They learnt more practical skills and enjoyed themselves too. The day culminated in a demonstration lecture, which involved liquid nitrogen, solid carbon dioxide and the occasional loud pop! Although we did not win this year they had a really engaging and challenging day of all things chemical.

We are delighted that today 24 pupils across both Senior Girls and Senior Boys have had the opportunity to take part in first ISA National Choral Celebration. The focus of the day is on fun, participation and celebration of the magic of singing, led by conductor and choir director Dominic Ellis Peckham.

During this week's assembly Miss Clifford gave a fond farewell to the House Captains with the help from next year's potential leaders of the school and today we said a fond farewell to all our Year 11 pupils on their last day before study leave begins. It has been a special day, a day to remember with time to look back, to reminisce and to enjoy each other’s company. Culminating this afternoon in a Final Assembly, in the presence of parents, staff and pupils, where we presented all Year 11s with a silver heart necklace to symbolise the love and affection in which they have always been regarded, and the strong relationships between themselves. The necklaces were kindly provided by our PTA. It is a time to look forward and to wish our Year 11s well for the future!

When your staff tell you that they are thinking of running a Tough Mudder, the words “are you crazy” spring to mind, then on reflections “good for you but don’t hurt yourself”! Mr Wareing, Miss Clifford and Mrs O’Clee really stepped outside their comfort zone at the weekend in Henley and I am not sure if they thought they could complete the course but I am delighted to report they all returned to school, a little battered and bruised, but brimming with a sense of accomplishment.
