Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mrs Heywood's Words Autumn 11

Claires Court were crowned the U13 ISA National Hockey ‘Trophy Winners’ beating Radnor House 1-0 in the Final at Lee Valley Olympic Hockey Stadium. Congratulations to all the girls who took part in this prestigious event.

The U16 Regional Indoor Hockey Tournament was a challenging competition for our young squad of players last week and although they didn’t manage to win a game, all the games were competitive and their determination to bounce back was commendable. Well done to all the girls who took part!

At Senior Girls we are having our final drive for the last part of the term, please check information enclosed in the bulletin about the end of term timings/dates and times of the Carol Service.

We were delighted to welcome Grace Clough, MBE Paralympic gold-medallist and double World Champion into the school on Thursday. Grace is hoping to follow a similar route as her close friend Tom Aggar, into teaching. Tom, also a former Paralympian, is currently teaching Science at Senior Boys. Grace spent the day in the PE Department and observing politics, an area she is particularly interested in!

Bookalicious, our librarians have done it again! Year 7 are joining in with the 'Christmas Book Gift Challenge'. Every pupil has chosen a book from the Junior or Senior Library that they have read and loved; one that they are confident will make a lovely Christmas book gift! They will gift wrap it and then attach a gift tag describing only the book genre and a brief summary. The book's title and author will be unknown. On Monday 9 December every pupil in Year 3-7 will be invited to choose a beautifully wrapped book, making their selection based on the gift tag information alone. They can then borrow their 'book gift' to read over the Christmas holiday! I'll take some pictures of the girls exchanging their book gifts on the day and send them on. Also a big thank you to everyone who ordered from our online Christmas Scholastic Book Club.  All commission earned will be spent buying new books for the school libraries.

A quick reminder - it is Christmas Lunch day on Friday 13 December and for Year 10 the chance to be Elves as they help our Junior and Nursery pupils welcome a very special Christmas guest all the way from the North Pole. Please ensure that you have opted your daughter out of Christmas lunch, or if she is bringing her own lunch, you have informed us via the link in last week’s bulletin, the closing date is today 29 November. It will also be Christmas Jumper Day so please remind your daughter to bring in a pound for the charity ‘Save the Children’ if they wish to wear a Christmas jumper.

Finally, thank you to all those who have already contributed to our Christmas Hamper Collection. The decorated boxes are appearing in the Reception area and the Christmas trees are on their way, so please keep the gifts rolling in: Years 7 & 8 - Luxury Items - Toiletries, Year 9 & 10 - Tinned Food/Preserves and Year 11 - Novelty Items such as Christmas Crackers/Table Games/Tree Decorations.

Have a lovely weekend.
