Mr Richards Words Autumn 1

Whilst we all felt like the world was turned upside down in March, this week has felt like the world has been tipped right way up again. The students have adapted exceptionally well to minor inconveniences that Covid forced upon us and, as I watch the pulse of the school day, it makes me exceptionally proud to be in charge of such an impressive group of young people. I have also been delighted with the way staff have adapted to the new measures; they have been relentless in their efforts to ensure lessons are always great, whilst the bubble zones have quadrupled their step counts. Finally, it has been a pleasure to get to know more of you this summer in our head to head drop in meetings. It is easy to see why the pupils are such a pleasure to teach, as they have clearly been brought up well. Great parents, outstanding pupils combined with quality teachers is the perfect recipe for the best schools. This is an exceptional school that produces well rounded students with excellent results and I only hope I can continue to improve our offer to you and your children.
We have welcomed some new staff into Senior Girls this September. Georgie Carter has joined our Science department following the most amazing sabbatical year travelling the globe. Chris Bennett has joined our Drama department from Redroofs school. Both Chris and Georgie are already proving a hit with the girls. Finally, Jenna Hamilton has joined our Science prep-team after a stint doing the most important job in the world; being a full time mum. We are very lucky to have them and I am sure they will continue to shine
This week, I delivered my first assembly as Headteacher. I reflected on the success and lessons learned during the lockdown period, reiterated the importance of following the rules in the present and mused on what the future might bring. I showed them a picture of Steve aged 12 and thought about what I would tell that guy to help him through the next 29 years. I boiled it down to work hard, be nice and be brave because, whether times are good or not so good, it all passes so make the most of every moment. There will be ups and downs this year but in our strong and compassionate community we will always help and celebrate with each other along the way. I hope this excellent start continues and we are looking forward to seizing all of the opportunities the future throws at us.
