Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mrs Heywood's Words Summer 5

When I arrived in school on Monday morning I was greeted by the fantastic news that Claires Court Boat Club Girls Crew had achieved a double home win!

WJ16 crew Kate Jesseman and Hannah Hickson beat Wellington College by 5 lengths with Hannah also achieving 'the double' by winning with the WJ15 coxed quad of Nuala MacFarlane, Anisah Khan, Felicity Kinsey and Anna Leigh (Cox). This was a fantastic day of rowing and coach Jack Jesseman was extremely pleased with their performance and results. We look forward to seeing how they do this weekend at the National School Regatta.

At this time of year it is lovely to walk round the school and feel the warmth of the sun... and to be able to chat with the pupils about their achievements in rowing, tennis, football, Duke of Edinburgh and exams.

Well done to the tennis team who continue to be extremely successful and congratulations to Amelia Sage and Sophie Carter who both play for Marlow FC Girls U14 team and have had a triumphant end to the season. Marlow FC lifted the Berkshire & Bucks League Cup at the weekend beating Wargrave and won the Berkshire & Bucks League for the first time beating Tilehurst earlier in the month to lift the County Cup.  The girls have worked so hard this season, juggling their commitments on and off the pitch and it also lovely to celebrate pupils achievements outside of school. We value highly the commitment they have to their external clubs, the importance of this for their development and wellbeing, as well as enriching their curriculum and allowing friendship to build outside of the school environment.

Well done to the large number of Year 10 girls and boys who successfully took part in their Duke of Edinburgh expedition at the weekend camping at Hurley Lock in Bray. Although our Year 10s are starting with their Bronze Award I hope they will also fix their eyes on the Gold Award, as it is an achievement that carries a great deal of weight with universities and employers, as well as giving a huge sense of satisfaction.

Upon our return to school after the May Half Term Holiday we will be inviting parents in to view the pupils' GCSE Art and Textiles work at the school exhibition which is being held on Thursday 6 June. Our young artists and textiles pupils have worked hard over the last two years and I am sure we will be impressed with their work!

The PTA are busy finalising arrangements for the Summer Fete on Sunday 23 June and the pupils are busily planning their year group stalls. Our usual parent stalwarts will be there but we are also appealing for any of our parents to give up an hour or so of their time to man a stall or serve behind our soft drinks stall.

To our Year 11 who have yet still to decide whether they are attending the Prom, please ensure you pay ASAP.

Have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend!
