Mr Wilding’s Words Lent 3
This week has rather been split by the 'snow day' on Wednesday. With 60% of our boys coming in by school coaches, many from the heavily affected areas in Buckinghamshire, it became quite obvious on Tuesday night just how late an arrival home many would have.
With so many staff also experiencing the same 'blizzard' conditions on Tuesday of snow and cars, and almost all the coach drivers being beyond their driving hours and not therefore available for their journeys the next morning, the 'closure' decision for the Wednesday seemed on balance the best response in the circumstances. For parents whose children could still have got to school, I do understand the inconvenience of this decision, though in mitigation from our review after last year's snow problems, we had agreed to make our decision early enough to ensure parents have time to plan, and we did meet that ‘expectation’.
Despite the weather, many teaching staff kept in touch with their pupils online, providing lessons and work “virtually” through their Google Classroom groups. On Thursday, we reviewed with many of the boys their activities and actions on Wednesday. Many of our boys took the opportunity to make the most of their day away from school, and catch up on their work as well!
On a positive note, the boys return to school on Thursday saw the U12s C and D teams play their first football match of the term against Salesian College with fantastic results, well done to all involved. Parents wishing to see all of our sports results are reminded that these are hosted on https://www.clairescourtsport.com.
The focus of Thursday's assembly was ‘Its okay to be different’ or as Kurt Cobain put it “They laugh at me because I’m different; I laugh at them because they’re all the same.”
