Mr Wilding’s Words Summer 5
As the strap line picture shows, Half Term week does not look to be set too bad. As we note below, we are now declaring the arrival of Summer, so short sleeves etc. become de rigueur.
The Senior Boys PTA meeting on Monday evening confirmed a number of key features for us in the Summer Diary, most of which are below. We have a range of events and activities in which parents can play their part, and we go ‘blazer free’ from Monday 24 June so parents wishing to clean and sell on at the PTA clothing sale on 5 July may do so readily.
Next year’s PTA committee looks well represented at most levels, though we are keen to add a couple more parents from next year’s Year 11 to assist in their various celebration events, and parents whose boys are going to be in next year’s Year 7. Parents in all year groups are always welcomed to assist at the events themselves. In the first instance, please let us know of your interest in so doing via the school office, seniorboys@clairescourt.com.
And finally, I was delighted for the Claires Court Academic community to learn that the major of Universities in the country have now rejected the concept of facilitating subjects at A level, and asked the government to dispose of the preferred range of subjects (EBacc) at GCSE. With many of our pupils moving on into careers beyond University in creative employment disciplines, we’ve evangelised consistently at Secondary and Sixth Form level for subjects such as Art, Drama, Media, Music and Photography, and with great success too! Former pupil Sam Conway has won many plaudits for supervising so many of the special effects on the latest series of Game of Thrones, so we can truly link school here to adult life beyond.
