Mr Wilding’s Words Summer 9

It is wonderful that summer has returned during the school day, putting smiles on everyone’s face and adding to the uptake of Vitamin D and release of hormones to lift our happiness levels.
Sports Day next Wednesday provides an additional outlet for energy and competition, as Kelly (yelllow), Ridgeway (green), Rowanhurst (red) and St Lawrence (blue) vie for the Athletics section of the Denis Compton House trophy. At our new Year 7 introduction evening yesterday, all our new boys seemed agog at the concept of joining a house, and wanting to know if currently their House was best. I have been really impressed by how Mr Hudson and the four Heads of House, Messrs Young, Bowen, Miller and Hammerton have kept their houses involved and included right up to the end.
Parents are cordially invited to attend Sports Day, though please bear in mind that whilst you may take your son away direct from the Little Marlow Stadium, all athletes are required to stay to the end, expected circa 15:30 and be signed out by their parents at the entry gate when they leave.
More detailed arrangements for Sports Day follow in the Bulletin notes from the Office, but please do bear in mind that on Sports Day (Wednesday 3 July), all pupils in the Senior Boys School are asked to come in dressed in their PE whites, together with wearing a House shirt of the right colour. Normal lessons take place for Periods 1 to 4, so books, pens and chattels do need to be brought to school.
Other sporting news is building in importance; bad luck to Year 7 who lost their County Cricket final on Wednesday, and well done to Year 8, now County Champions, who won theirs, both against one of our great rivals Reading Bluecoat. We have two boats prequalified for Henley Royal Regatta (Fawley Cup - quad, Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup- eight), with another quad racing this evening to book a second berth in the Fawley. To have 12 of our rowers already guaranteed a race at Henley Royal Regatta is astonishing, and a first in our Boat Clubs History. #CCPride
