Mr Wilding’s Words Autumn 8
Welcome back one and all from our half term break. At the end of last half term, it seemed we looked as though we were leaving Europe at the end of the month. Now we are back, still part of the EU and all of that to play for, with a General Election in five weeks time, the second half of the term is definitely going to be exciting.
I am so pleased that the reports back from half term itself have been so very positive. Our MFL trips abroad (Cologne, Normandy and Madrid) gave our linguists the chance to practice their language and develop their interest and understanding of the countries concerned. The rowing and sailing camps in Dorset and Italy clearly added expertise, fitness and fun to our athletes’ week, and above all the amazing school development visit paid by our Sixth Form students to Brufut in the Gambia has inspired them to reach even harder towards the challenging academic goals they have personally set.
My thanks to all involved with our hugely successful Open Evening last night. The boys showcased our School at its best, and the feedback from our visiting families about the boys both helping in classrooms and acting as guides was very positive. As always your sons have made us proud and our thanks for your valued support at this event.
We also completed this week two days of Academic Mentoring meetings with Year 11 boys, parents and form tutors. We trust these sessions have proved beneficial to all and put the boys in a strong position for their mock examinations starting in a few weeks time.
Finally to finish with, some wonderful news to share about our staff: congratulations to both Mr Andre Boulton for his marriage to Gaynor Edwards, and Mrs Leanne Kirby for the birth of her daughter Mila May.
