Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mr Wilding’s Words Lent 5

It has been a real pleasure to watch the development of our school council activities this term, which concluded with a presentation of their core ideas for 2020 to the whole school at assembly on Thursday morning. Their choice to focus on the development of further covered areas outside must surely have arisen as a result of the rains that have fallen this winter, whilst indoors they seek to change our behaviours to limit the ‘waste’ from the excess use of electricity and water bottles. Many thanks to our Domestic Bursar, Stephen Rhodes, for sourcing a particularly effective type of drinking fountain/water bottle filter, which is now being installed across the sites. The boys’ have already saved 6,100 bottles - well done them!

Vice Chairman of the Senior Boys and Sixth Form PTA, Tina Webster led the creation of our presentation for the AGM, but unfortunately could not be present as she was attending the Brompton Hospital, where her husband Peter is recovering from a triple by-pass operation, having suffered a heart attack on Sunday. We have sent our best wishes to Peter, a stalwart supporter of Claires Court Rugby, and we hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Members of Pupil Voice, James, Year 10, Dan, Year 9 and Jack, Year 8, presented their thanks and news to the PTA at the annual general meeting this Friday morning. The PTA's support has provided a new satellite changing room at Boyne Hill Cricket Club, a new pontoon for our sailing centre on Taplow Lake, quite literally hundreds of books and medals for our prize winners over the past year, and of course plenty of opportunities for parental interaction at their various events throughout the year.

And finally, congratulations are due to the many pupils, current and future, who took part in the scholarship assessments. The energy and enthusiasm evident in those attending showed just how many of our pupils wish to excel in their chosen field. I saw four brilliant Year 6 boys have a real go at our new ICT scholarship trials, their task being to code Ozobots out of a maze! Results will be  announced next week on Friday 14 February by post.
