Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mr Wilding's words Lent week 7

The announcements from central government have come thick and fast, on school reopenings, on the outlines of how public examinations results are to be published, and on lots of the in school safety vetting and management procedures. Poor old Mr Spanswick is on plan 86 as I write, but we are delighted that we can have all year groups back in school from Monday 8 March.

We have two great bits of breaking news to announce.

We have done it! We have finally been approved by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to start a Combined Cadet Force (CCF) programme here at Claires Court.

A huge thank you must go to Mrs O’Clee who has managed to get our school to the front of the queue of 160 schools waiting to join the programme. This will give us enormous opportunities in the future to develop the leaders of the future and have a lot of fun along the way. Here is Mrs O’Clee with her Headteacher’s certificate from Mr Richards, and of course she has also been awarded her Principal’s Star.

On both Monday and Thursday assembly, I’ve been able to celebrate the amazing achievements of the NASA team in landing their Perseverance rover on Mars, making specific reference of course to the facts that most of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory team have been working from their laptops at home, in kitchens and sheds, as we have too. I love their motto, taken from the great US president, Teddy Roosevelt: “Dare Mighty Things” - there is indeed a challenge for us all as we unpeel carefully from winter #lockdown.
