Mr Wilding's words summer week 10

The growing frenzy of sporting activity in school, round and about is giving us an even greater sense of society coming together, despite concerns on Covid-19 Delta variants.
Many of the school’s tennis players are now out in the national tournaments; boys in Scotland and Issy Purser as our leading girl making it to Junior Wimbledon, a first for the school this century. The rowers were out in force last weekend at Marlow Town Regatta, winning a host of pots and medals, and we await with great anticipation the U12 Berkshire Cricket final in which our boys meet Crossfields in Reading next Tuesday (weather permitting).
On Thursday afternoon next week, we host the first all through senior school sports events with our House Athletics competition at the Little Marlow track. Not only are parents permitted to attend (we look forward to sending you fuller information under separate cover), but we have managed to arrange for Franca’s Ice Cream van to be in attendance, Mr Marquee to cover the grounds for the boys and a PA system fit to keep everyone up to speed with our exciting programme of track and field events. There will be a 1pm start, and lasting until after the presentation of trophies circa 3.30pm. We'd be delighted for you to take your son home with you if you are already there, once the presentations are over, but there will also be buses taking boys back to Senior Boys for the usual 4pm pick up or activities. Medals are presented during the afternoon, so the final House relays and trophy are the closing item.
House music assembly led to some busy voting last week on behalf of the performers, with the winning trio being:
- 1st Place - Kerim Y (Ridgeway) - guitar
- 2nd Place - Ben C (Rowanhurst) - piano
- 3rd Place - Gianpier A (Rowanhurst) - violin
Congratulations to all who took part of course, the bravest thing usually ever done in school is to perform!
And finally, at Assembly this Monday, we celebrated the Emmy award won by Alumni Alex Sears for his video graphics and direction work for CNN digital. The winning series was for ‘Style Icons’, his favourite episode being on the evolution of red lipstick. His quality of design and animation shines through! https://youtu.be/O-kjQYbkvIA
