Mr Wilding's Words Lent Week 9

Our Jubilee Canopy at Junior Boys is establishing well and to complete our work for this spring, Year 10 boys and girls joined me yesterday for an extended session of tree planting in our Tiny Forest plantation.

Such was the frenetic nature of their contribution that we were able to plant almost 2,000 additional tree whips during the beautifully dry morning, completing the full Jubilee Canopy planting for 2021-22. This month's set of trees included Blackthorn, Cherry, Alder, Crab apples, Downey & Silver Birch, English & Sessile Oaks, Field Maple, Hawthorn, Hazel, Hornbeam, Rowan, Lime and Whitebeam. The total of trees planted is now 5,000, and our next challenge will be to keep them watered during periods of Summer drought.

For Year 7, they have had even more dramatic things to investigate, that being the mystery graffiti sprayer!  Who caused GBH to our loyal caretaker, Mr Davison, as the crime scene photo shows? Before you worry too much, it’s Science Week, and our budding sleuths have to follow the science to unmask the villains, of which we have six notable suspects.

And finally, we’ve also kept our eyes on the boys’ developing plans for Charity week, and letters to keep specific year groups in the loop will be received separately. The CCF have my permission to also join in the efforts being coordinated by Maidenhead’s Aid for Ukraine, link to Facebook page. This local group has organised a weekly truck to the Polish/Ukraine border from the United Reform Church in West Street, Maidenhead, SL6 1RL.  They’ll be manning a stall at school every day for the next two weeks so that NEW products can be brought into school for onward transport to Ukraine. Their next lorry is going to help people who are resettling and so we need different things!
