Mr Wilding's Words Summer Week 2

This second week back at school has been made all the more successful by the on-going fine weather, permitting almost everything we need to take place to happen, and on schedule, as planned!
The many and various sports we play have managed some competitive contributions on the track, at the wicket and on the water this week. For Year 11 of course we are all completely focussed on finishing the three weeks of final revision before the formal commencement of their GCSE examinations on Monday 16 May. To this end, and as part of their formal signing off of their GCSE courses, they and their parents are to attend their Celebration assembly next Friday, 13 May. And it really is nice to know they can celebrate their time with us together at the end of exams, with the Year 11 Prom now booked at Grovefield House Hotel for Thursday evening 30 June.
Year 11 will know just how much they owe to the success of their studies. Mrs Ronell Selzer, was for some their Science & Biology teacher and for all, their Deputy Head Academic at Senior Boys, looking after their programme of study for their five years with us. I am sad to announce that Mrs Selzer is to leave Claires Court at the end of this Summer term. Mrs Selzer first joined Claires Court as a parent, placing first Luke and then Sean here for their education, both completing their A levels with us before moving on to science degrees and doctorates thereafter. After years of helping shape the academic and learning strategies at Senior Boys, Mrs Selzer has now chosen to focus her passion and skills in Science, Maths and learning strategies into coaching individual pupils who require support at specific checkpoints during their educational journey. Mrs Selzer has agreed to engage with our work at Senior Boys in a consultancy capacity, and I look forward to her making a continued contribution with the study skills programme she has developed over the last 10 or so years. Dr Karen Loughran, our Head of Science has been appointed as her successor as Deputy Head Academic from September, and they will work closely together over the forthcoming months to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities takes place.
And finally, we welcomed Andreii into Year 8 this week, from Brovary, a suburb in east Kiev, totally devastated by the Russian invasion. CC Boys are rising brilliantly to care and support, please do read my more general note in this week's bulletin.
With best wishes for the weekend
