Mr Wilding's Words Summer Week 8
Thank goodness for small mercies!
As we come to the conclusion of the first set of Public Examinations this week for three years, I am delighted to report that for the vast majority, the series has gone well. Covid has almost been kept at bay (just one victim at A level) and attendance has been spot on. If ever there was a team effort between school, student and home, it’s PUBLIC EXAM TIME, and I am delighted to celebrate with all that we are completing the 2022 series in fine fettle.
For others elsewhere , reliant on public transport etc. this week has been an utter nightmare, and my sympathies go out to all involved.
With the above in mind, teachers, parents and candidates are clearly looking forward to Thursday 30 June, with the Year 13 Cocktails and Canapés from 5pm at Crowne Plaza, Marlow and Year 11 to their Prom at the Grovefield Hotel, Burnham from 6pm till carriages at 10.30pm.
Given the huge amount of Hard Work and Good Will our parents, pupils and teachers put into the PTA events of the summer, I do hope that you can take the opportunity to join us at the Summer Fete this coming Saturday, between 12 Noon and 4 pm. Parking is on the new playing fields (unless you are a stall holder). Funds raised this year so far have helped every academic department with their awards and prizes, and in addition provided much valuable stimulus to work in sciences, sports and the CCF.
And finally, we welcome the High Sheriff of Berkshire, Miss Alka Kharbanda to school next Tuesday (visiting the Sixth Form and Senior Girls site), in support of the twin themes of her year in office, those of Education and Hidden Heroes. The office is second only to the Archbishop of Canterbury in antiquity, and the first formal visit of a High Sheriff to our school.
