Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Head of Sixth Form Lent 7

The students who went on the Art and Psychology trip to Berlin were a credit to themselves and Claires Court. Here they are in front of the Brandenburg gate. The staff who led the trip commented on the engaging and interesting company the Year 12s and Year 13s proved to be and although the teachers (and probably students!) certainly needed to catch up on some sleep on their return they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, including the East Side Gallery, an open-air gallery consisting of a series of murals painted directly on a 1316m long remnant of the Berlin Wall, located near the centre of Berlin. To the north of the city lies the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp where more than 100,000 Jews, communists, intellectuals, gypsies and homosexuals were killed by Nazis between 1936 and 1945. The students were able to witness the buildings which have been preserved in their original form and more importantly achieve a better understanding of social influence and conformity.

Staff and students are delighted the weekend is here! It has been an intense start to this half of term with the mock exams students have taken designed to be as much like the real thing as possible. They are a vital experience as they give the student a clear idea of what to expect this summer as well as honing their time management skills. Students who are working well experience a confidence boost while for others, perhaps not working at their optimum levels, it can be a useful wake-up call. For all students it will highlight areas of study that really need more work.

Congratulations to Ollie Yate on his outstanding performances to an audience for his A Level Drama and Theatre component, first as a homeless man and then a troubled son. Somehow, my sock took a starring role! Also very well done to Amy Walters on her stand out performance in the Dance Show where she produced a moving dance to ‘Grace’ by Rag and Bone Man. Jamie Vowles must also get a mention - he has been called up again by the U18 Brazil rugby squad which indicates the quality of his rugby. It is such a pleasure to work each day with the talented, skilled and all round remarkable students in our Sixth Form!
