from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mrs Rogers' Weekly Words Lent 3

Last week I was celebrating our students’ magnificent efforts in the pool, raising money for The Lions Club of Maidenhead to support local families in need. This week, our talented artists and textiles students take centre stage as they have spent the past three days creating remarkable pieces using paint, fabric and wool. Seeing each piece develop from the early seed of an idea into an original final product has been nothing short of exhilarating. Both Year 12 and Year 13 students have shown flair and individuality in their planning and their methods, so please ensure you take up the invitation to visit their exhibition next term - you will be amazed at their work.

Mr Hope and I have focused on meeting each student for a mentoring session this week, following the publication of their full reports. We have both been impressed by the careful attention students are paying to the feedback they have received from their teachers. Year 13s are in the 'home straight' with only weeks of teaching and learning left before their mocks and then their external exams. Most now have created detailed revision timetables, printed off past papers to complete, and are attending the numerous subject 'drop in' sessions run by subject teachers. Some are held before school, others at lunchtime and a number run at the end of the school day. Year 12s are now addressing issues flagged up in their reports to ensure they improve their performance in the mocks after half term. What is heartening is observing so many students who are eager to 'aim high' and prepared to apply themselves to the task, enjoying the challenges their studies present. Mr Hope and I are urging students to focus on thorough preparation now to avoid unnecessary stress later!

Being physically active is an important life skill, the perfect antidote to study, and to eating apple pie. Myles, pictured above, made the most delicious caramelised apple pie with shortcrust pastry that even Mary Berry would be proud of! He kindly shared a slice with me, which of course I couldn't refuse. So I will be on my bike this weekend to make sure I burn off a few calories, improve my cardio fitness and get some endorphins flowing. I trust you all have a refreshing couple of days too!
