Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mrs Wilding's Words Lent 2

For some children this has been their first week attending a nursery but you would not know it as they have settled so incredibly well. We have been looking at numbers, shapes, colours and letters generally and have made and used the colour pink in a variety of ways. Wednesday morning was a great example of seeing how well the children accept changes in routine and follow instructions as we had a fire drill which they took in their stride.

Transition children have looked at the water cycle and have been busy making clouds, rain, river, lake and a sun for display. They carried out experiments using mirrors and their breath and have developed their language further with words such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation. They are settling in well with the routines of the class with the children who went up a term ago really helping the new children.

The week commencing 15 January the nursery children will be learning about weather, the colour red, the number 2  and the letter v. Any small toys incorporating any of these would be ideal as their “Show and Tell” item this week. Transition children will be learning about using water and the letter o.

The playground activities for the week will involve hoops and bean bags.

The Wednesday afternoon cold cookery activity will be making fruit salads using ingredients such as apples, grapes, bananas, pineapple and oranges.
