Mrs Kirby's words Lent week 9

From Mrs Ainsley

Our topic this week has been about teachers. Children of this age love to be the teacher and so the children were in their element to be able to get hold of our counting wands, sit on the grown up chair, fill out registers and generally tell the other children what to do.

One of the questions we put to the children was

"What does a teacher do?”

Wow! a loaded question, especially in Early Years. We expected them to answer, “teach us our numbers”, “help us to write our names” but would they realise all the other little things which we do to ensure they are safe, happy and fulfilled.

Well they did. We had comments like,

"You look after me and make me happy when my mumma isn’t here.”

"You teach us to be kind”

"You give me a cuddle when I am sad.”

From what we have seen this week I think we have a few teachers in the making.

In addition to serious teacher stuff we also had fun with oranges. Feeling, squashing, smelling and tasting.

  • The children are now provided with a morning snack of fruit or vegetables so there is no need to send anything in.
