NurseryWords Lent Week 9

The Nursery completed their last week of ‘Above the Atmosphere’ and we can definitely say that the children (and staff) have thoroughly enjoyed it.
It can be a tricky concept to teach young children that there is a life outside their immediate familiarity. However, the staff feel that they have really grasped the concept of there being something past planet earth. One of the children displayed this understanding with this sentence, whilst exploring this activity. "The galaxy is getting bigger, it's exploding. The sun is now orbiting the Earth. It's orbiting all the planets." As always, all areas of the foundation curriculum are covered when we think about the children’s development and what activities which we want the children to experience. These areas of development are personal, social and emotional development, physical, communication and language, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.
The following photos show a snapshot of some of the areas of development we have been working on this week.
The 2-year-olds have made telescopes, developing their fine motor skills by peeling and sticking. They have used paint, glue and other media to create the galaxy and to make four leaf clovers as part of our celebrations for St Patrick’s Day.
They have been spending lots of time in the garden, crawling, climbing, running and jumping and using tools to paint with and create.
Next week we will be starting to explore Spring. Hopefully we will continue with the sunny weather which has made an appearance this week.

Please can children’s names be written on their water bottles. We have had some new ones come in and they do not have names on.
