Nursery Words Summer Week 6

This week we started our topic of ‘Planting and Growing’ and there are explosions of colour everywhere. The children have been planting seeds, watering the flowers and vegetables and learning scientific words for parts of a flower.

There has also been sensory play using petals, herbs and beans and the children have been able to lead their own learning. Being able to be engaged, curious and explorative builds on vital skills for future learning.

We have also had pop up flower shops and garden centres in the Nursery rooms.

These language rich spaces otherwise known as ‘role play areas’ are available for the children to use. Adults spend the first couple of days modelling language and roles within a shop; how we speak, what is used and socially acceptable play. The children then take on characters and roles using existing, new and extended vocabulary. Mathematical language will be used; counting, words used around money, adding and subtracting and a lot more.

In the 2-year-old room, the children have been continuing to tend to their flowers and vegetables they are growing. They have then been eating what they have grown.

Next week we will be starting our topic on minibeasts.

It will be the turn of the Busy Bees class to go to Forest School.

Please find information and booking here for our Nursery (3-year-olds) and Reception holiday care which will run from Monday 18 July - Friday 26 August.

Have a lovely weekend.
