Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mrs Wilding's Words Lent 8

Busy busy week! Tuesday saw the children all happily tucking in to pancakes and learning about Shrove Tuesday.

Wednesday was St David’s Day and the nursery classes were busy creating pictures daffodils using shapes to celebrate this.

On Thursday the children enjoyed their “World Book Day” experience of dressing up in their favourite book character costume and looked amazing. Thank you so much for sending in books to accompany the costumes which they really enjoyed listening to. The children all have a £1.00 book token for spending in their favourite bookshop.

Lots of shapes hunts have happened this week with walks around the school and pictures created of shapes in the environment such as bees with hexagons for their honeycombs.

Transition children have been looking at patterns and shapes and they went on a walk around the school and grounds searching for these which they then attempted to draw. Language such as sides and faces were used when describing shapes and the children developed mathematical skills by comparing and ordering sizes of shapes.

During the week commencing 6th March the nursery children will be learning about “Shapes with curves”, the colour grey, the number 8 and the letter v. Any small toys incorporating these would be ideal as their “Show and Tell” item this week. Transition children will be learning about “tubes and blue” and the letter a.
