Nursery's words Autumn week 3

From Mrs Ainsley

We’ve had another happy and fulfilling week with the children getting used to our free-flow ethos. This means that they can choose to go outside or choose from either of the rooms. This has encouraged independence, confidence and self-esteem. We have adult led activities but most importantly we can allow the children to initiate their own learning and as adults we are able to extend that learning in a situation where the child feels happy, relaxed and willing to learn.

We have also been encouraging independence with the children taking it in turns to carry out everyday tasks. The special helpers have the opportunity to prepare the morning snack and lay the table for lunch

We are continuing the topic of Light and Dark and there has been lots of conversation about the moon and stars this week which has then extended into activities linked to Literacy, Maths and Expressive Art and Design.

The children have celebrated the Chinese Moon Festival this week, China’s second largest celebration. It is a celebration of the end of the Autumn Harvest which links well with our own Harvest celebrations, which will be happening next week.

With the Autumn Moon celebration in mind, we looked at how the shape of the moon changes over time. To discuss this further, we had a choice of Philadelphia or Marmite (or both), spread on a rice cake and they looked at what a full moon and half moon would look like. We all laughed when we were able to eat the whole lot and have a total eclipse.

Harvest Festival

This year Claires Court is delighted to work with the local charity “Baby Bank”, an organisation which collects items for distribution to families who are suffering in our local community.  They collect and create parcels for those in need. They are currently running low on vital essentials and would be especially grateful for donations.

They would be very grateful to receive any items such as:

  • Toothpaste for children and adults
  • New feeding bottles
  • Nappies
  • Baby wipes
  • Baby formula
  • Nappy creams
  • Shampoo for babies, children and adults

We will be having our Harvest assembly on Monday 27 September. Please feel free to bring donations into school.

We wish everyone a lovely weekend.

Mrs Ainsley and the Nursery team.
