Miss Barlow's Weekly Words Lent 10

Sweet Charity!

This week it has all been about raising funds and awareness for our two amazing charities - The Link Foundation and Pong Tek School. The girls have honestly been amazing; they have been creative, worked hard and had a lot of fun along the way (even Year 5 during their 92,800m Cross Country run)!

Lower Juniors have raised money by selling toys from home, organising a Lucky Dip and Year 2 walked a mile to school to see what it would be like for pupils in Cambodia walking to Pong Tek - the pupils there actually walk 3 miles to school! In Upper Juniors, there has been a lot of fun! We have enjoyed discos, fruit kebabs and toy and book sales as well as hand, arm and shoulder massages, hair styling and the corridor was extremely quiet on Wednesday when Year 6 took part in a sponsored silence - we tried to persuade Mr Laouira to take part but we weren't successful! Our week was rounded off with a Pyjama Day. Everyone looked so colourful and cosy. Thank you to all of the girls for their creativity and thoughtfulness and to you for being so generous with your donations and sponsorships. I look forward to presenting the money we have raised to our charities.

As well as all of this, Years 4-6 have been continuing to rehearse for the Les Mis concert next week and, if the taster we enjoyed in our assembly is anything to go by, we really are in for a treat next Tuesday evening.

Thank you to everyone who made our Workshare on Tuesday evening. It is always lovely to hear and see the girls show their work and their classroom; they all sounded so proud of their achievements.

PTA

Last Thursday evening we enjoyed the PTA AGM. Anna Taylor-West, our Chair, presented the achievements of the PTA over the past year including all of the projects they have supported. Thanks was given to our members - Anne Halpin, Ann Jesseman, Susannah Corley, Rebecca Gillman and Fiona McWilliam. Mrs Heywood and I also gave thanks to Anna and the committee for all of their hard work. We learned that Susannah Corley will be stepping down as Vice Chair at the end of the academic year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her passion, commitment and support. This does mean that we are looking for a member of the Junior Girls' parent body to come and support our PTA group - please do contact me for more information (I may approach you too so be warned!).
