Mrs Kirby's Words Lent 9

Science! Science! Science!
This week has been National Science Week and saying we have celebrated it would be an understatement. Every day the girls have enjoyed a different science activity from building squirrel bridges and elf houses in The Thicket, to finding out what happens to bones in vinegar, to making rainbows and finally enjoying ‘real’ scientists visitors who taught the girls all about light and chemical reactions including how to make sherbet!
And if that wasn’t enough… there was a theft! Two important framed pictures of Amber Hill and Ellie Rayer went missing and it was down to Years 5, 6 and 7 to work out who was guilty through hair sampling, fingerprint recognition and handwriting comparisons! The video can be seen here (I can tell you now… it wasn’t me!)
It has been amazing to witness the engagement and excitement around this subject. The girls have been talking all about their experiments, methodologies and predictions as well as atoms and how the stomach works!
Today was our final day and the girls celebrated by dressing up as mad scientists for the day, competing in our inter-house science quiz and finding out who had the best egg-drop contraption!
A huge thank you must go to Miss Philp (our Science Lead) for organising such an excellent week filled with so much learning and fun.
PTA AGM
This morning our Pupil Voice representatives did a stirling job of thanking the PTA for all they have done during their presentation to the PTA committee and guests. Well done to our Chairs; Chloe, Emily P and Olivia M (Year 6), and to our Year 3 representatives, Charlotte and Josie.
Good luck to our ISA Drama Troupe who are competing in Tring today.
Next week, it is our annual Charity Week. During the week, the girls will be participating in fundraising activities in order to raise money for our chosen local charity The Link Foundation. The Link Foundation do amazing work in our community supporting disadvantaged families. More information about their work can be found here.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
