from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mrs Kirby's Words Autumn 3

Big Girl, Little Girl.

One of the very successful initiatives we have at CCJG, is our Big Girl, Little Girl set up. Each Reception pupil has a ‘Big Girl’ in Year 6 (or 2 or 3!) to share her first year of school journey with. Throughout the year, the girls take part in activities together, go on trips and learn from each other. The girls love it and we are excited to see these relationships blossom over the next few months. Their first collaboration will be at Harvest Festival on 3 October.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending our Senior and Sixth Form Speech Day. Seeing so many pupils rewarded for their achievements as well as performances and speeches from ex-junior pupils was heart-warming. Mrs Stephanie Rogers (Head of Sixth Form) made a point of speaking to those pupils who hadn’t won a prize this year. She used Michaelangelo’s quote to encourage them that there was still time to achieve your goals and that teachers were here to support and help discover their talent: “Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.”

With only one week left, I am feeling quite sad about leaving these amazing girls who have settled into their new classes so beautifully. But, we still have lots to look forward to next week, including: Year 3’s trip to Chiltern Open Air Museum, Hockey and Netball Fixtures, and our first Open Morning next Friday, which gives us the opportunity to show off the pupils’ work and the excellent displays all around the school.
