Claires Court Maidenhead

Mrs King's Words Autumn 6

When you grow up what do you want to be? A question that we have probably all been asked at one time or another and for many of us the answer would have changed several times over the years. My favourite answer by far this week has got to be “A Christmas tree!”.

It has been fantastic seeing all of the girls in their costumes today for ‘When I go up day’ and I have loved hearing them talk about what they would like to be and why they have chosen this. This year we have seen a teacher, a make-up artist, a jockey, a photographer, a hip-hop star, a dance teacher, an engineer and yes… a Christmas tree! I wonder if their chosen careers have changed since we dressed up last year.

On Tuesday a team of girls (and boys) from Years 4 to 6 got off to an early start and after a slight delay made it to the London West ISA Junior Swimming Qualifiers at ACS Cobham International School. As always the girls gave the competition their all and we achieved some fantastic results. Miss Hudson and Miss Joslyn were extremely proud of how well the team represented Claires Court! A super effort from all involved in ensuring the girls arrived in time for their races. Well done and thank you!

Also on Tuesday was the ISA London West Arts Competition at Norden Farm. Many pieces of art were entered including paintings, textiles, photography and 3D sculptures. The competition was steep but our Junior Girls received their best results yet with a 2nd place in the 2D Art category for Bethan, a highly commended for Lola for her self-portrait, a second place for Chloe and a highly commended for Victoria in the KS1 and KS2 Photography category. Both Chloe and Victoria were in last years’ Year 6 Photography Club. A very big well done to all!

Year 6 have had a visit from Mrs Sykes today to talk about her career as a psychologist and she carried out a psychological test on Mr Laouira, much to the amusement of the class. Thank you, Mrs Sykes for taking the time to come and talk to the girls. Also thanks to Mrs Hinchy for her time this afternoon. Mrs Hinchy has been telling the Year 1 girls about her job as a professional buyer.

Next week on Tuesday evening we will have our first parents’ evening of the academic year, starting at 4pm in the Main Hall.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the PTA fireworks on Saturday. Fingers crossed the weather is kind, but just in case, remember your wellies!
