Mrs King's Words Autumn 7

And just like that the first half term of the School year is over and my goodness hasn’t it gone fast!? They do say that time flies when you’re having fun and if there’s one thing that can be absolutely guaranteed, it is that the Junior Girls Team certainly know how to make learning fun and exciting! They have definitely earned a break!
This week, like all the others, has been jam packed with trips, exciting lessons, sports fixtures, parents' evening and we even managed to squeeze in a party!
On Tuesday Miss Hill (Florrie Year 1) became Head teacher for the day. Florrie dictated her words to me, this is what she said:
"I started the day in assembly. We talked about kindness and respect. The girls were a bit giggly so I had to toot my whistle to remind them to sit quietly. Reception sat beautifully and they got to leave the hall first! Next I went to observe Year 2. They were learning about 'The Princess and the Pea'. Mrs Tewari is excellent! Next I went to Year 3 and they were having a Maths lesson. The girls were listening very carefully and Miss Mansfield did a great job. In the afternoon Erin and Sophia from Year 6 gave me a tour of the School and I had a meeting with the Pupil Voice about being kind at school. I have really enjoyed my day as Head of Claires Court Junior Girls! Can I do it again tomorrow?
Also on Tuesday, a group of Year 6 girls and boys visited the RAF Museum to attend a STEM day based on aeronautics. The children enjoyed a fun packed day, including a science show where they discovered the effects of low air pressure on the human body - modelled by Mr Potato-Head! This was followed by an exciting fact hunt around the museum where they found an aircraft used by Prince William. Finally, the day was topped off with a workshop where the children excelled, working as a team, to design and manufacture a light but sturdy aeroplane wing from newspaper, before trying out some coding to test out a pilot's reaction time.
On Thursday Year 4 visited Winchester Science Museum and had a fantastic day being immersed in Science linked to their stargazers topic. They found out about how telescopes work, wore defractioning glasses to investigate how the colours of the rainbow go together to make white light and as if that wasn’t enough they also saw a planetarium show where they viewed all of the galaxies in the observable universe! What a jam packed day! View the full gallery here.
The Reception girls welcomed the Reception boys to their class on Thursday for a day of Halloween fun. They dressed up in scary costumes and played some traditional...and less traditional Halloween games. Great fun was had by all!
We have had a fantastic half term full of fun and learning! The girls have worked so incredibly hard that we have decided they deserve some time off!
Wishing you all a wonderful half term, whatever you are doing! I look forward to hearing all about it in two weeks!
