Mrs King's Words Autumn 9
Be the ‘i’ in kind
This week has been anti-bullying week and kindness has been the focus of our week. Wednesday was World Kindness Day and we have been thinking hard about how we can show more kindness to those around us. The girls have been making kindness chains where they each thought of the ways that they could show kindness to each other.
Year 3 and Year 6 have had ‘Secret Angels’. Each girl was given a name and they had to secretly carry out acts of kindness without being discovered. Miss Mansfield visited Year 6 to talk about how words can hurt. They carried out an activity to reflect on how even small comments can have a lasting effect. Look out for ‘KIND’ letters around the school and more importantly consider how we can all be the ‘i’ in kind.
On Monday, Miss Sadler organised a Remembrance Assembly for Junior Girls. She talked to the girls about why we celebrate Remembrance Day by wearing poppies and our wonderful choir, led by Mrs Stevenson, performed We Will Remember. It really was a beautiful and moving performance. Year 2 girls and boys visited the War Memorial on Tuesday. Here they paid their respects to those who have served and lost their lives fighting in the First and Second World Wars by laying a wreath that they had made.
Wednesday we were wowed by our musicians in our Informal Concert. It was wonderful to see so many girls from Year 2 to Year 6 performing with confidence. We had many small groups, duos and solos on the cello, ocarina, flute, piano, violin and singing. For some of the girls it was the first time they had ever performed in a concert on their instrument of choice. Year 4 have only been learning their instruments for 7 weeks but were wonderful!
The Reception Girls visited the Reception Boys on Thursday for some fun in The Thicket. In class they have been learning about animals hibernating and how they stay warm. Not to be put off by a bit of soggy weather, they wrapped up and headed out into the Thicket. First they found a good hibernating spot and then carefully covered their hedgehogs in leaves, moss and twigs to make sure they stay cosy for the whole winter. Such caring girls and boys! They all had a great time!
It has been a busy week for our swimmers! Yesterday they participated in the Maidenhead Marlins Swimming Gala and then first thing this morning they headed off to Aldershot for the ISA Regional Swimming Finals. Well done to all who participated and many thanks to our dedicated staff for accompanying them!
Today has been our first ever Makeup Club. With a keen interest in makeup, Isla in Year 6 is running a makeup club to design and try out Lion King makeup ready for the production in March! We can’t wait to see what they come up with!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
