Claires Court Maidenhead

from Nursery to Sixth Form

Mrs Kirby's words Autumn week 5

Just a week to go until half term - really?! This week has been filled with Forest Schools, Fixtures, ISA Art, Girls on Board tours, Toy making and much, much more.

Some of the girls' classes joined the boys for their first Forest School session this week, and we even saw Nursery take full advantage too! Mr Pennington is steaming ahead teaching the pupils about boundaries and health and safety aspects before delving into making tools, building fires and dens; all linked to their topics of learning.

Year 1 invited the Toy Workshop in to help them build their own toys and play with some very old toys, all linked to their topic of ‘Toys’. They learned about the History of toys; they used their Design Technology skills to make them using different tools; their Science skills were used to look at the different materials toys are made out of and their English and Maths skills were used throughout!

I always say that our Golden Rules are not just a poster on the wall, they really are what we live by and expect. Our girls and boys from Nursery to Year 6 are taught about our Golden Rules, are rewarded for following our Golden Rules and are expected to follow them at all times. This doesn't mean that our pupils don't make mistakes, but it is how they then learn from those mistakes and change behaviour or attitude which is important. On Tuesday, Mrs Ward described her RS lesson to one of our visitors and explained that each year group learn about a different Golden Rule from which stories from different faiths are learned; what a wonderful way to learn about how to be a good citizen whilst also learning about different faiths and cultures. Each class has a kindness bucket where pupils put in notes about acts of kindness done by their peers. Particular praise this week goes to 6S and 3B whose buckets were full of positive comments.

Today we had our first in person Open Morning for over a year and it was so nice to show off Claires Court to our prospective families. Thank you to all of our amazing Year 6 girls and our Year 6 Junior Boys’ House Captains for doing a spectacular job of touring the school!

On Sunday it is World Mental Health Day and today we (staff) have been wearing yellow to show our young people that they are not alone.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you at the Fireworks tomorrow; I’ll be mainly at the pumpkin stall and the food tent - not sure what that says about me!
