Mrs Kirby's words Lent week 1

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you have all managed to have a restful and enjoyable break, shared with family and friends.

It has been wonderful to welcome all of the children back to school. They are all rested, full of energy and ready for the term ahead. The teachers were all delighted that there were not any last minute ‘government announcements’ and that learning and relationships can continue to develop at great pace in school. Already we’ve managed to pack in lots of learning and fun and we’ve only been back at school for four days! Contrary to this time last year when everything was cancelled, we are looking forward to many trips and fixtures as the term gets under way.

In Languages this term, the children have started to learn the basics of Spanish, and songs and lots of speaking can be heard all around the schools during these lessons. I look forward to hearing more as their discovery of a new language continues.

In Art, Years 5 & 6 have started painting their Abstract and Surrealism projects. We have been learning and experimenting with different painting techniques, brush control and colouring mixing. Year 3 has been taking ‘Name Photographs' and we will be editing the work next week.

The pupils have also been busy this week in Music; Year 3 on the glockenspiels, Year 4 and Year 6 starting the ukulele and Year 5 enjoying the ocarinas. Well done to Daniel C and Caitlin for taking part in the ISA Young Musician of the Year..they didn’t quite make it to the final this year but their performances were ones to be very proud of so a big well done for taking part. Mrs Stevenson will be introducing the ISA Musical Theatre competition to all pupils in Y3-6 this week. If anyone would like to enter this please see her. The song must be from a musical or musical film. Video entries have to be with Mrs Stevenson by Thursday 27 Jan please.

A quick thank you to last weekend’s Swimarathon participants, a great effort with well over 100 lengths completed in aid of the Link Foundation.

Just a quick reminder that our After School Activity programme starts on Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend.
