Mrs Kirby's Words - Summer Week 5

This week, our Jubilee celebrations commenced with 4 lucky pupils being invited to the Mayor’s Jubilee’s party at Windsor.

Meeting the Mayor

A range of activities and goodies introduced the idea and the children were certainly wowed by the paintings, robes and ceremonial chains.

Monday also saw many athletes venture after school to run, throw and jump at Holme Grange School. Our pupils participated with distinction, pushed themselves physically, and demonstrated togetherness and encouragement as well as some excellent performances. As usual the relay teams maintained the highest Claires Court standards. It is amazing what a little lunch time practice can achieve. I know they will want to continue to perfect their changeovers having seen the possibilities to run even faster. Progress was made by all of them and it certainly helped selections for the ISA Regional Competition later in the term.

The Lower School were treated to a Workshop on Monday from Perform who made the boys and girls consider how they could protect the planet through role play and super heroes. Reception and Year 1 also were treated to a great day out pond dipping at Wellington Country Park. I think by the end of the week these pupils might just have had three picnics!

Year 2 boys joined Year 2 girls on Tuesday for a fantastic littler picking exercise, learning about how to look after our planet and what we can do to help.

Year 4 went all out on Thursday to celebrate the Jubilee; by dressing up in 1950s fashion, cooking delicious treats (coronation chicken was a favourite!) and learning about events in the Queen’s early reign throughout the 1950s. They also had a party in the classroom and watched some video footage from the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.

Our Jubilee Celebrations concluded today with a wonderful red, white and blue (with a hint of sky blue and yellow as well) picnic lunch. I wish you all a happy short break and look forward to an even busier final half term on our return. Platinum standard indeed!

Have a wonderful break!
