Miss Barlow's Words Autumn Term Week 2

First full week completed! And what a busy week it has been.
The girls have enjoyed a range of learning experiences from learning the 3 Little Pigs Story from the wolf’s point of view in Year 2 to writing storm poetry (inspired by last night!) in Year 4. Today, Year 5 have set off to Marchant’s Hill for the weekend. I know they will have an amazing time achieving lots and conquering lots of new experiences.
The U11 Hockey Team had its first tournament at Wellington College on Wednesday. The girls played very well considering they have not trained since last season (!) and were lucky enough to meet Hannah MacLeod.
Flexi study
This new option for all girls in Reception to Year 6 will run Monday - Thursday in the dining room. This option will run in addition to the more formal Study and Homework Club sessions and should be used if you wish to pick your daughter up between 4pm and 5pm. It can be used on an ad-hoc basis for example if you are running late or have a last minute change of plan. If you have any questions, please ask your class teacher.
A spotlight on…
As mentioned last week, I would like to give you a little more information about how the girls learn how to spell. From Reception, we build upon the knowledge that the girls have developed in our Nursery School by continuing the multi-sensory approach to phonological awareness. Our phonics and spelling programme is adaptable to meet the needs of all learners which fits in with our progressive English curriculum. Through fun differentiated activities which are age-appropriate, the girls learn phonic strands, spelling rules and patterns and high frequency words which they practise in class and consolidate through weekly differentiated dications. We are proud to say that this established programme based on Letters and Sounds allows the girls to show accuracy and understanding of spelling principles.
Merit Certificates: The Whole of Reception, Caitlin Fleischer (Year 1), Mayla Patel (Year 2), Megan Godleman (Year 3), Elsie Howard, Angel-Mai Hylton & Katrina O'Brien (Year 4) and The Whole of Year 6.
Bunny Award: Layla Badri (Year 1) for being a kind friend who takes care of others, and Yana Todorova (Year 6) for being caring and kind to her friends.
