Sailing Instructor (Outdoor Education)

We are seeking to appoint an energetic and hard working part time Sailing instructor, to join our Outdoor Education department delivering across all divisions within the School from May 2023.

The ideal candidate will be able to coach sailing. There will be opportunities to join expeditions and deliver other activities such as Canoeing or Kayaking if suitably qualified.

This is a permanent post for between approximately 10 - 16 hours per week during term time (12:00 – 16.00 or 18.30 depending on the time of year). The department typically operates Monday through Friday afternoons during term time, but some Saturday/full weekends and some school holiday work may be required.  Salary: c£13.50 an hour.

Department Overview

Claires Court School runs a dedicated Outdoor Education department with dedicated bases on a local lake and the River Thames including a large fleet of boats. We run a nationally recognised sailing program as part of its Outdoor Education Department where students are able to join the school as a novice sailor and progress to competing at National Level or become qualified instructors.

The program currently works with students from Years 5-13, is open for all students to join and has over 170 students sailing or paddling either once or twice a week all year round. 

The Outdoor Education department employs 11 staff which include very experienced Senior Dinghy Instructors, Dinghy Race Coaches and BC Coaches. The school operates as a RYA Training Centre for Dinghy and Powerboat, holds BYS Recognised Club, On Board status and follows the BC award scheme for paddlers.

In addition to our regular Sailing and Paddling, the Outdoor Education team run an expedition, school activity days, a number of training camps and international trips and also support the delivery of the BTEC Level 3 Sport course.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo Child Protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

In addition to an assessment of their ability to perform the duties of the post applied for, candidates invited to attend for interview should expect further discussion relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
