from Nursery to Sixth Form

Farmyard Friends and Bug Detectives

This term’s topic of ‘Living Things’ was at the forefront of our Reception pupils’ minds when they enjoyed an animal encounter day at Wellington Country Park.

This hands-on experience saw the pupils head down to the park’s farm where they had the opportunity to meet, touch and even feed the farmyard residents. With a variety of animals on show, including chickens, alpacas and tortoises, the children were taught the importance of animal care and how to understand an animal’s needs.

It was then time to head into the park’s woodlands to become ‘bug detectives’. An ideal habitat for a vast array of mini beasts to hide, the children were tasked with collecting different mini beasts using the park’s collection kits and ID charts and asked to record their findings.
