Big Wins in Bournemouth for Junior Girl Athletes
Earlier this month, our young athletes from Junior Girls embarked on their annual Athletics Tour to Bournemouth, winning both competitions against tough rivals, The Gregg School and Ballard School.
After a short coach journey, the team arrived at Southampton Athletics Track ready to face The Gregg School in their first meet. The girls performed exceptionally with a girl from each age group, U9s, U10s and U11s, coming first in both track and field events. There were some seamless changeovers in the relay which helped Claires Court claim overall victory.
The girls had earned a well deserved rest and were treated to a lovely meal at Zizzi’s, before heading to their overnight accommodation, the Laguna Hotel. An early morning rounders match on Bournemouth beach was thwarted by bad weather allowing the team to take refuge on Bournemouth pier, trying their hand at some of the arcade games!
The second meet of the tour saw the girls face up against Ballard School, who pipped Claires Court to first place last year. The girls performed excellently and waited nervously as the points were totted up to find out if they had done enough. With a margin of 51 points, the team had done enough to claim the first place.
Katie Hudson, Junior Girls PE teacher, praised the girls:
“Not only did the girls win both competitions, they competed with great passion, determination and showed great sportsmanship along the way. Each and every pupil was well mannered and acted as an excellent ambassador for Claires Court. Both pupils and teachers had a lot of fun and we all cannot wait for the next tour!
