Idea collecting and arctic adventures at Maidenhead Library
An inspirational morning of exploration and magic was in store for pupils from Years 4 to 6 when they visited Maidenhead Library to meet popular children’s author Abi Elphinstone as part of their World Book Day celebrations.
Author of fantastical novels such as ‘Sky Song’ and ‘Rumblestar’, Abi took pupils on a real-life adventure as she discussed her distant travels across the globe from the arctic to Mongolia. Collecting ideas along the way, Abi explained the origins of her stories and how she has incorporated real people and situations into her writing.
Paula Copeman, Junior Girls Librarian, commented on the value of the visit: “Abi talked through her writing processes and spoke of the difficulties of being an author with dyslexia. She was really inspiring and encouraged pupils to always carry a notebook to jot ideas down or even to have a go at doodling their thoughts. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to work so closely with our local library service and can offer our pupils the opportunity to meet an author. This was the perfect way to kickstart our World Book Day celebrations!”
