The big debate
Last week, our Year 6 Junior Boys flexed their powers of persuasion when they took to the floor to debate the relative merits and demerits of their cases in an attempt to win over their peers and teachers.
Under the microscope were the topics of School uniform, mobile phones in school and, that age-old issue, whether homework should be banned. The boys had prepared well, researching evidence to support their arguments and undermine their opponents. All got their chance to voice their views, with one boy presenting through Meets due to self-isolation.
Richard Hogg, Junior Boys teacher, praised the pupils: “Well done, Year 6! I can see a few future lawyers amongst your number. The debate was a great opportunity for pupils to develop their oratory skills and to deliver their argument in a clear, well thought out manner. The exercise also allowed pupils to build their confidence when presenting to an audience.”
