World Book Day 2017
Across the School celebrations have been taking place for World Book Day. All children in Nursery and Juniors dressed up as their favourite book characters for a day of book appreciation.
In Nursery, the children embraced the day wearing costumes full of colour and creativity. It was a wonderful morning which captured the children’s imagination and encouraged a love of books.
The Lower Junior Girls had an extra special visit from Maisy Mouse. The children listened to stories about Maisy before joining in singing songs and giving her a big hug!
Our Juniors Girls in Years 3 to 6 and Junior Boys in Years 5 and 6 came together to listen to the author Ali Sparkes. She spoke of her difficulties as a child with reading as she found it hard and didn’t find her ‘switch-on’ book until senior school and talked of her journey as a writer.
Mrs Paula Copeman, Claires Court Librarian commented,
“Ali Sparkes gave a humorous account of her many rejection letters but with the support of her family and belief in herself she didn’t give up. She also took the children back in time to the 70s and explained that TV turned off and reading was the only escape, but today they are many other alternatives.”
Her new book Thunder Struck was released on World Book Day.
Senior Girls Year 10 ASDAN group also organised a fantastic treasure hunt for Years 7-11, we will be bringing you more news on this soon!
